West Australian Méthode Traditionnelle
As pioneers in the Great Southern, we always believed that the Mount Barker subregion, which shares similarities with the climate of Champagne, would grow world-class cool climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Several clones of these varieties were brought in from France and other locations in Australia to be planted at the Mount Barrow vineyard almost 20 years ago.
Our Mount Barrow vineyard in the cool climate Great Southern, alongside our recently acquired Forest View vineyard in Pemberton are both perfectly suited to growing fine Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier which are high in natural acidity. These vines form the base wine of the Howard Park Jeté range.
Our Chief Winemaker, Nic Bowen, is passionate about sparkling – ever striving to experiment with yeasting rates, ageing and oak use and building more layers of complexity into the Jeté collection.
Howard Park x West Australian Ballet
To perform a Jeté leap, dancers must master poise, dedication and elegance. To produce a bottle of Jeté méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine, our winemakers must do the same.
Howard Park is a proud primary sponsor of West Australian Ballet and has a long-running family history with professional ballet in Australia. It is the only winery in Australia – and, most likely, the world – to boast a former Principal Dancer and Soloist on its staff (David Burch & Lesley Scogna, both siblings of owner Jeff Burch).
We worked closely with the West Australian Ballet on the below Jeté campaign video to capture the many ways in which the art of winemaking and ballet intertwine. The filming would not have been made possible without the valuable contributions from the talented Movement Director and Principal Artist, Gakuro Matsui and dancers, Charles Dashwood, Indiana Scott and Georgia Waite.
