Sparkling Wine & Champagne
Recent developments at Howard Park Wines have included the launch of new state of the art Method Traditionalle sparkling wine facility, the first totally integrated large-scale sparkling facility in Western Australia.
After much research and tasting we also have a ‘special selection’ of small grower producer champagnes which we have chosen to import from France. There are a great many small volume family producers in Champagne, however, few have the perfect combination of old vines and great vineyard sites along with the intense pride and great expertise required to produce truly exceptional wines. These are champagne producers who make wines using only their own fruit.
Until relatively recently, the only champagnes available in Australia have been from the large Champagne houses or Grandes Marques. Because of the volumes produced, the large Champagne houses buy much of their fruit from many small growers. Through years of excellent marketing the large houses have convinced us that blending of vintages, grape varieties, vineyards and regions is the way to make the best champagnes. And they want us to believe this because that is how they make their large volume wines. However, their best wines or ‘prestige cuvées’ are often made from single vineyard sites in a single region and, more often than not, a single vintage, even a single grape variety.
