2011 Howard Park Porongurup Riesling Reviews

A blend of the best free-run juice from two of the oldest vineyards in this sub-region of WA's Great Southern area. Has a lime sherbet and lemon peel nose with a lean and tight palate. There's a good acidic zing. Try with baked balmain bugs. Wine of the Week.

From Porongurup in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, this wine shows why the district is prized for riesling. The aroma recalls guava, lime and slatey ground with a floral overlay. Light and elegant in the mouth, it still has the intensity, firm extract and tight backbone for ageing.

Each year the evidence increases that WA's Porongurup is one of the best regions for long-lived riesling anywhere in Australia. This pale straw-green wine is typically exceptionally fine, and both it and the track record of the region tells you greatness awaits around the corner in five+ years' time, and long thereafter.
