2007 Howard Park 'Abercrombie' Cabernet Sauvignon Reviews

'Best of the Best' Excellent crimson; features a blend of 'old vine' cabernetfrom the Great Southern (93%)/Margaret River (7%); a distinguished wine withvery clearly articulated varietal fruit at the 'sweet spot' of maturity. Willage superbly.

This is Howard Park's top-of-the-tree cabernet. It's from largely Mount Barker fruit with a small amount of Margaret River providing mid-palate grunt. A stylish and thoroughly seamless wine of poise and presence. Seamless smooth palate with fine silky tannins, fine-grained oak and deep concentrated fruit intensity. Outstanding wine of great promise.Cellar 14 years.

Howard Park's Abercrombie Cabernet Sauvignon (formerly known as Howard Park cabernet) has a track record as a stately, ageworthy wine. Seemed fitting that it be our 10,000th review. This release is a subdued, elegant, structured wine built to be cellared. It tastes of blackcurrant, violets, chocolate andmint and the more you taste it the more it seems defined by the braid of its tannin. It extends right through the wine, and right out through the finish. Impeccable balance. All the components in place. I'd expect to rate this higher in time (which is exactly what it needs). Campbell Mattinson"?opened with a distinct peppery note, some nougat and cedar oak, mint and black fruits ?it struck me as an atypical flavour profile for Howard Park. It has strong, but very attractive tannins, and yes, the balance and length are both excellent?Like Mattinson says, it's not a wine for now, but most likely a good one for the future." Gary Walsh
