2004 Howard Park Scotsdale Shiraz Reviews

Brightly coloured and clean, this is a super-elegant and refined wine with great length and intensity. Spice and black fruits have absorbed the French oak and the tannins are perfect.

A very well made wine showing lifted, spicy fruit on the nose and plenty of aromatics. Beautiful sweet fruit on the seamless palate ? still young. Drinking well now but years ahead of it.

A Frankland shiraz that is consistently one of WA?s best examples of the variety. It was outstanding in 2004. Juicy, succulent, yet restrained with cool, fully ripe blackberry flavours, velvety texture and fine, delicate tannins.

Right in the groove for this style. Savoury plump fruit, fine tannins and a silky mouth feel provide an engaging wine. The palate is quite robust but in perfect balance.

Pruney, figgy-smelling with tangy blackcurrant ? still integrating with the oak. Attacks with really juicy blackcurrants and then builds dry tannin. There?s really slick, positive fruit sweetness through the middle and it?s quite different to the Leston. Will evolve in the bottle for a decade.

Lovely bouquet with a white pepper lift. Excellent length of beautiful spicy fruit flavours in silky balance with the cedary oak and plenty of acid on the finish.

Deep, bright-rimmed ruby. Rich and spicy on the nose, with dark berry aromas and notes of dried flowers, cracked pepper and graphite. Fat and sweet on the palate, but the blackberry and cassis flavours are focused and brisk, and nicely firmed by fine-grained tannins that knit smoothly with the lush fruit. Spicy, sweet and long on the finish, with good lift and a tangy mineral note adding brightness.
