2004 Howard Park Scotsdale Cabernet Sauvignon Reviews

From north-facing gravely well-drained soils. Pure intense blackcurrant fruit nose is smooth and elegant with some chocolatey richness and brooding spicy minerally gravely focus. The palate is concentrated and full with pure, smooth blackcurrant fruit. Supple and quite elegant with a lovely purity to the fruit and a nice spicy structure. Superb stuff.

[Howard Park labels] Top rung is the Howard Park wines themselves. Bottom rung those old favourites of ours, the MadFish range. In the middle, the regional stuff: this Scotsdale and the Leston. Scotsdale is Great Southern fruit and Leston is from Margaret River, each label has a shiraz and a cab ? and any of them would be worthy inclusions.

Really intense sweet stewed cassis smelling: the essence of cabernet sauvignon with flake tobacco, and minerally purity. Fine vanilla oak too. Has a sparkly, chewy tangy palate with building currants and fruitcake.

Dark red. Assertive aromas of cherry preserves, redcurrant, red licorice and fresh tobacco. Offers firm, fresh red fruit flavours, with bright acids providing lift and focus. With air this became more pliant and a bit softer, offering riper notes of cassis and mocha. An elegant, gently structured cabernet with a striking balance of ripe and fresh fruit tones. The tannins are smooth and meld nicely with the suave fruit.

?you?ll find aromas of rich chocolate cake mixed with Christmas pudding. Very long, sticky, more-ish palate brimming with flavours of fruit cake and cedar oak.

The 2004 Scotsdale Cabernet captures the vineyard. It?s a savoury style with salsa spice, tomato and capsicum leaf lingering long on the finish. Mouth-filling fruit is surrounded by textured, fine tannins
