2003 Howard Park Scotsdale Shiraz Reviews

?it is delicious? This year there?s cherry and light spice on the nose, and a palate brimming with juicy plums and black cherries. The feel is excellent ? like smooth stone or clay.

Now, here is something quite special. I think it?s only just starting to emerge from its slumber but when it does, beware. This is seriously scary stuff. An awesome statement of Great Southern shiraz. Ripe plum and dark blackberry fill a robust powerful palate lifted with a nice black peppery edge.

Excellent colour; fragrant spicy, peppery black fruits; long, intense palate; great balance and style; flavour with finesse. Drink 2018.

Compare this with the Leston to see the clear distinction between the two growing areas. Impressively concentrated and textured with cool climate flavours, ripe tannins and nicely balanced French oak. A class act.

Bright in structure, with ripe, generous flavours of blueberry and plum that persist nicely against fine tannins on the long finish. Drink now through 2010.

This looks to me like the release of a superb vintage. The tannin frame, the roll of five-spice-flecked fruit, the blueberried/black-cherried fruit flavour ? this is the magic fruit profile that fans of Great Southern shiraz adore. It?s a firm, polished, balanced wine, full of flavour and interest. Class in a bottle. Drink: 2008 - 2015.
