2002 Howard Park Leston Cabernet Sauvignon Reviews

The Leston Cabernet is excellent again this year, with juicy, ripe black and blueberries from start to finish. Has a smooth feel ? like washed river rocks ? and earthy, iron-ore nuances on the nose. Drinkable now, but will hold 3 ? 5 years.

Each year, Howard Park releases a pair of West Australian cabernets ? one from the Great Southern Scotsdale vineyard, and this Margaret River wine from Leston. The ?02 Leston is a young cab with succulent cassis, dark chocolate and leafy characters. The elegant palate is underpinned by fine-grained tannins.

This is the little brother of the label?s flagship cabernet and has similarities. The shy nose betrays its youth. The palate has weight and concentration, with extract and structure. Generous, smooth, ripe tannins. Screw-capped. Now to 2012.
