2001 Howard Park Scotsdale Cabernet Sauvignon Reviews

An earthy, dusty violet, plum, herb and cassis nose hints at the terroir of the Great Southern. This is a fine, elegant cab with complexity in the mouth but highlighted by blackberry, cedar and herbs.

A simple, straightforward cabernet with nice dusty/herbal cool climate characters. Lovely cedar and coffee aromas and a spicy richness to a long, persistent palate; great texture.

Bright fruit! Plums, mulberries, with a medicinal herb undertone, a liquorice hint with attractive vanillin smoky oak. The palate has soft fruits with a raspberry and sublime blackcurrant message, touches of black olive with a complex mineral note. Tannins are dusty and lively acidity runs through the mid palate which has plenty of fruit weight; the wine evolved in the glass and will continue to evolve.

Red berry fruits galore. A fleshy mid-palate. A gently herbaceous sling that mingles so affectionately with the sweet vanillin oak that it's hardly noticeable at all - before firm, mouthcoating tannins take over. The finish extends well but is slightly metallic, and the cranberried brightness that plays throughout is where its real charm lies.
