1996 Howard Park Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Tasting Notes

Composition: 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Shiraz, 3%
Region: 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Shiraz, 3%
Technical Notes:

Extended skin contact post fermentation 30 days. Maturation in 100% new French oak barriques (Seguin-Moreau) for 24 months.

Tasting Notes:

The 1996 vintage was relatively cool when compared to the previous two seasons. Whilst the aromas of the wine are still ripe and fruit driven, you can sense the strength and structure behind the perfume. The tannins give the impression of strength and capability to age. Blackcurrant/blackberry aromas are dominant though intermingled with brambles and cedary oak. A rewarding wine for those who choose to cellar and forget for a decade or more.

Cellaring Notes:

Drinking Window: Now - 2008
Current Rating: 3.5 Stars
