1992 Howard Park Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Tasting Notes

Composition: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc
Region: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc
Technical Notes:

A mild lead up to summer with fine warm weather in January and February encouraging rapid vine growth and early maturation of some varieties. Cooler temperatures and intermittent rain during March/April extended the ripening period of later-picked varieties (such as Cabernet), with some excellent flavour development.
Oak treatment: 25 months in 100% new French Oak.
Fermentation: 10 days at 30 degrees maximum. Further 21 days skin maceration.

Tasting Notes:

John Wade at his best. A wine of great richness and intensity, dense cassis (blackcurrant) on nose and palate, excellent depth of fruit, impeccable oak treatment provides firm but very fine tannins, very good length. It is a wine which combines power and elegance. It is in balance now and can be enjoyed immediately, though it is made with cellaring specifically in mind and bottle maturation will add further complexities and nuances.

Cellaring Notes:

Best after 7-10 years. With correct cellaring should have extended life of at least 25 years.

Current Rating: 5 Stars
Drinking Window: Now to 2012
